Darren Montgomery, MCQI CQP

Having joined the CQI in 2008 Darren Montgomery has recently completed aspects of his body of knowledge which has led him to receive full CQI member status. Darren is a consultant at Montwood Consulting.

Before starting up my business I worked for a multinational organization as a quality manager for about five years, so was familiar with certain quality aspects. However, these were mainly specific to that particular organization and industry, which left me wanting to explore a more general approach to quality.

I did not know that the CQI existed until I became aware of a local talk that was being held by the treasurer of the CQI in Northern Ireland. I was very surprised and intrigued on both a personal and professional level. The idea of networking with other people in the quality industry was very appealing. I was part of the manufacturing industry so wanted to find out about different quality management techniques and gain new perspectives.

Completing certain parts of the body of knowledge turned what was initially viewed as a thankless task into an enlightening experience. It enabled me to review different aspects of quality and bring in examples from my past experience and contextualize the findings. After becoming a full CQI member, I stated this on my business cards. 

I have taken full advantage of the benefits that being a CQI member offers, including Qualityworld and the many interesting and varied branch events that take place. I have also been appointed CQI Treasurer for my local branch.

I would recommend CQI membership because it presents members with an excellent forum to learn about the quality industry and best practice in business. 

The CQI is a prestigious organization that holds a prominent position in the quality industry and offers a good place for quality professionals to meet and share ideas. I am proud to call myself a member.
