March 2011: The future of the ISO 9000 Family of standards

Date: 8 March 2011

Venue: Atholl Hotel in Aberdeen

Hosts: CQI NoS

Speakers: Peter Fraser, Director of Management & Operational Systems (MandOS)

Subject: The future of the ISO 9000 Family of standards

A presentation was delivered by Peter Fraser, Director of Management & Operational Systems (MandOS), who has been working with the CQI’s Standards Development Group, along with eminent UK system thinkers such as Tony Brown and David Hoyle. Peter gave the CQI NoS Branch an overview on the CQI Position Paper being developed on the ISO 9000 family of standards, in response to the CQI members' survey and conference last year.

Current feedback confirms that there are still significant differences of opinion and understanding of some of the basic concepts within the standard(s). Peter was keen to understand branch members view on the paper, which contained some radical proposals (addressing the process descriptions and the expression of a “system”), and some of his personal points of view.  During the meeting Peter, wanted to keep things simple by adding Doric Quality terminology translations, such as defining  Quality as “Fit wye a thingmie’s fit fir fit it’s supposed tae fit”.  We look forward to seething this as part of the revision of ISO 9000 in 2015.

The CQI NoS would like to thank Peter for his generosity and supporting the branch event held at the Atholl Hotel in Aberdeen.

Peter Fraser signing a copy of his Doric business management book 'Dee the Business', which he kindly gave away during the event.
