CQI Avon

The Avon Branch (formerly South Western Branch) acts as a more locally oriented focus for members and as a link to the London headquarters.

Branch objectives and plans

We have planned a series of monthly meetings with the following intent:

  • To provide a forum for discussion, networking and exchange of views
  • To mentor students and members studying the CQI Diploma
  • To invite company and SIG members to discuss topics of mutual interest
  • To invite people from other institutions, Business Link and local government

Events

Visits and talks are arranged on a variety of subjects of interest to members located in the BA, BS, TA and SN postcode areas. The branch meetings afford an opportunity for members to meet each other on an informal basis to discuss their common interests in the pursuit of quality.

New members, and those who may not have attended meetings previously or for some time, are always very welcome. The committee members can be contacted for further details of the events and would be delighted to hear from you.

Visit the events page for more information.

CQI Avon Branch name change (formerly South Western)

Named the South Western Branch on its formation in 1939, the branch held onto its name when the South Western Region was formed many years later.

By continuing with a name for the branch that is the same as the region, we would be rather unusual and somewhat illogical. We therefore decided it was time to change the name to one that was more distinctive.

When we form branches we look for a locality where there is a membership greater than 60. The branch covers postcode areas of BA, BS, TA and SN.

There are an insufficient number of members in Bath, Taunton or Chippenham to warrant forming separate branches in these areas so if we called the branch Bristol we would alienate members in those areas.

We looked for another feature in the area and that was the River Avon which cuts through the postcode areas of the locality towards its source near Luckington in Wiltshire. The branch is therefore named after the river, not the county which is now defunct.
