13 January 2011 CQI Wessex Event - The Future of the ISO 9000 Series of Standards

David Hoyle spoke about his work with the SDG and discussed proposals for changes to the ISO 9000 series of standards.

David Hoyle advised how the Standards Development Group (SDG) at the CQI has been working on proposals for the changes that they feel are needed for this group of standards. An online survey, advertized in Qualityworld and QW Express magazines, received 250 responses. From these responses, a picture was formed of people's thoughts on the standards, in particular ISO 9001, and whether they should be changed or not. ISO 9000 and 9004 received the highest numbers of 'no change' votes, but less than 50% did not want to change ISO 9001, so presumably changes are needed here.

Out of 432 responses, 14 recommendations were listed with the percentage response to each with the highest being 'simplify vocabulary, language, jargon' at just under 25%.

A total of seven propositions are being put forward which will need the consensus of the project team and approval from the CQI's Professional Policy Board and SDG, before they can be presented to the BSI committee QS/1 for further action. There is no guarantee that agreement will be reached for amendment or the changes proposed, but the proposals made seemed sound to all those at the event, with minimal queries on what was advised.

This was a great presentation by David with much food for thought for members present.
