14th October 2010 CQI Wessex - Web-based supplier accreditation
Web-based supplier accreditation - what's in it for the Quality Manager and what's in it for the Supplier?
Sandy Duncan from Exor Management Services gave us a very useful and interesting presentation on how their supplier database is broken down into 'public' and 'private' sector supplier assessments. EMS = Exor + SAFEcontractor.
Some members were aware of SAFEcontractor, as their vans can be seen about. They have 250 clients and 21,000 accredited suppliers, 80% of which are SMEs. Their mission is to create a healthy supply chain by identifying risks and avoidable costs for their clients, thus improving business performance. Examples were given of some of their clients, who include Tesco, HSBC, M&S. Sandy explained how their system works and why it is needed for their clients -how businesses can have many suppliers, but how many do they really know?
Businesses do not have infinite resources, but for a relatively small outlay, EMS can standardize the approach for them. They use supplier accreditation standardization based on two major Government led initiatives, SSIP (Safety schemes in Procurement) and PAS 91:2010 (Construction related procurement – prequalification questionnaires) from BSI, (now in final draft).
EMS uses a 'profiler' database, which has various criteria set up that suppliers need to complete for the information to become available in the database. It was advised that 40% of the people employed by EMS are IOSH qualified, to enable them to do health and safety assessments on suppliers.
