8th February 2011 CQI Wessex Event

Presentation on the DSTL integrated processes and procedures transformation project, by Martin Gething and Eric Scargill.

Through a three-year change project, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL - a Trading Fund agency of the Ministry of Defence) has transformed its business management system from a collection of printed document procedures to an integrated set of processes presented through user-friendly intranet pages. Clarity, usability and speed of access have been vastly improved, while maintaining compliance with external standards. The new design uses Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS 2007) technology.

The presentation incorporated two screens and two speakers. This worked well and kept the listeners interested. The speakers also had differing styles of presentation and that also was well received.

This was a very useful topic for quality practitioners and it was appreciated that the speakers were open and honest in showing the pitfalls as well as the successes. It was interesting to see their management’s expectations especially relating to the actual time scale of the project in getting over the many hurdles.
