Standards Development

The Standards Development Group represents the views of the Chartered Quality Institute in the development of national standards related to the institute's objectives

Mission

To influence the development and promotion of Standards for the benefit of CQI, its members and society.

Vision

Acknowledged leadership on committees formed to advance standards in the field of quality management.

Objectives

  1. To develop, implement and maintain the processes for managing SDG's capability.
  2. To identify and prioritise potential, proposed and published standards the CQI needs to influence in pursuit of its objectives.
  3. To influence the selected standards by ensuring adequate and effective representation from CQI members on relevant UK standards and policy making bodies in the field of quality management.
  4. To promote the selected standards in a way that ensures that members of the CQI are informed of all national and international standards that are perceived as being relevant to quality professionals.
  5. To measure, review and improve the effectiveness of the SDG in fulfilling its mission and vision and in achieving its objectives.

The purpose, scope, composition, responsibility and authority of the SDG is defined in its Terms of reference.

Membership

The group is open to those members of the CQI who wish to contribute to the development of standards and support the objectives of the SDG. There are two classes of membership:

Committee members: Those with sufficient expertise and commitment to represent the CQI on national and international standards committees and contribute to achieving the goals of the SDG.

Ordinary members: Those with sufficient expertise to examine draft standards and provide constructive comment and suggestions for improvement in the format required by the standards bodies. 

Register to join the Standards Development Group as an ordinary member and participate in the development of national and international standards.

We are currently reviewing our register of members and request that QCI members interested in joining the Standards Development Group (SDG) re-register so we have up to date details that enables us to contact you when setting up internal Standards Working Groups.
