David Hoyle's career began with English Electric Aviation in Lancashire, followed by a period as an engineer officer with Cunard. Shortly after joining Britain's fledgling space programme at British Aerospace in Bristol he qualified as a chartered engineer and began to develop his passion for quality. After several years managing international product assurance programmes, he joined Ferranti International as quality manager of its air traffic control and avionics division where he elevated attention to quality from the shop floor to the board room.
In 1990, he moved into management consultancy with Neville-Clarke Ltd where he guided several companies in the UK and US through ISO 9000 certification and delivered many training courses throughout the world. In 1994 he became an independent management consultant and later set up Transirtion Support, a publishing, consultancy and training business specialising in business process management.
Since 1994, David has published several books on quality management some of which have been translated by national standards bodies into Spanish, Italian, Swedish and Japanese.
Since 1980 he has taken an active role in the IQA (now the CQI) and held several appointments at branch, regional and national level. He was elected honorary fellow in 2006 the same year he was presented with an outstanding service award. In 2005 David took early retirement due to sudden vision impairment but continues his interest in quality management, continues to write and lives in Monmouth, Wales with his wife Angela.
