Quality in healthcare

The NHS is experiencing a period of unprecedented change as a result of the cost saving agenda and wholesale reorganisation. Throughout all of these initiatives the concept of quality has been often repeated, yet the term, in terms of healthcare at least, has not been clearly defined, leaving the public and staff confused about what is meant by improving quality and their role in delivering it.

In order to ascertain how quality is operating and viewed within the NHS, the CQI, in conjunction with the Health Service Journal and Atos Consulting has undertaken a quality survey of NHS staff. The survey provides a ‘real time’ assessment of quality by NHS staff and it throws up some startling results.

The result of this work has been a webinar with experts contributing from NICE, the NHS Confederation and Atos, a piece of research which questions NHS staff views and experience of quality and a feature in the Health Service Journal based on the research results.

The CQI's research has also been featured in The Nursing Times.
