Charles Taylor ConsultingOur Management Services Business has a management system which, like that of many established companies, has evolved over time and is now in need of review and revision.  We have identified a number of areas for improvement in the way we are doing things, and this has led to a decision to set up a quality management function within the organisation and to redesign the system in line with a modern quality management approach.

To start the process and ensure buy-in from staff across the business, we decided that we needed to undertake some training and since I, as the new Director of Quality Management, had already done a number of training courses with the CQI and found them excellent, the CQI were the natural people to turn to.  We swiftly identified that the course “Implement a Quality Management System” would be the right one for us, and I was able to discuss our needs with Tony, the trainer, and work out ways in which the course could be changed or adapted to meet our particular needs.  Both he and Kanchan from the CQI’s training department were extremely helpful in making sure that we got the training that would work best for us.

We are currently in the process of putting 48 of our senior and middle managers through the course over three sessions; the take-up has been excellent and the feedback from the first course was extremely  positive.  Tony had made sure there were a lot of group sessions where the participants could discuss how the principles and theories would work in practice in our organisation, and they came out with some really helpful insights to feed into the process.  In particular, we had a lot of comments that the course had exceeded expectations; participants had started off by wondering “What’s this quality management stuff all about?”, and they came out not only with an answer to that question, but with a very clear idea of how it can be of benefit to our organisation in particular.

For the team which leading the project to design and implement the new QMS, it will be enormously helpful to have colleagues with this level of knowledge and enthusiasm in all areas of the business, and I have no doubt that if we are looking for further training, we will be asking the CQI first.
