UK Quality Leader of the Year 2008

A major aim of the Chartered Quality Institute is the development of business, commerce and public service through the application of quality principles.

We all know of the many excellent examples throughout the UK of highly successful leaders in both large and small organisations, who by their use of quality principles have achieved greater effectiveness in delivery of products or services, and motivated individuals and teams to transform all or part of the organisation.

Most European countries now appoint National Quality Leaders, forming a cadre of achievers who have demonstrated outstanding quality leadership.

UK Quality Leaders act as a reference point for good practice in quality improvement in industry, commerce and public service. Specifically they will:

  • act as CQI ambassadors for good practice
  • write articles in quality periodicals, industry/commerce/public service newsletters and magazines, regional and national press
  • contribute to the CQI quality leadership website
  • speak at seminars and conferences, including CQI company members events
  • work as part of the UK Quality Leaders Group to exchange good practice.

The UKQL Group will be usually led for one year by the previous year's UK Quality Leader.

UK Quality Leader Selection

The first stage of this award is the application to become a UK Quality Leader. All applications are initially subject to a desk review by the CQI panel members against the UK Quality Leader criteria, and applicants who meet the criteria will be invited for interview.

UK Quality Leader of the Year Award

Successful applicants will be appointed as UK Quality Leaders and automatically entered (if they wish) for the UK Quality Leader of the Year Award.

The CQI UK Quality Leader of the Year Award is for individuals who have achieved success for their organisation and its stakeholders through their leadership of a change management and quality improvement programme.

Selected UK Quality Leaders are further nominated by the CQI to be the UK representatives to the European Organization for Quality (EOQ) Quality Leader Award
