Standards Development Group
The Standards Development Group represents the views of the Chartered Quality Institute in the development of national standards related to the institute's objectives
Mission
To influence the development and promotion of Standards for the benefit of CQI, its members and society.
Vision
Acknowledged leadership on committees formed to advance standards in the field of quality management.
Objectives
- To develop, implement and maintain the processes for managing SDG's capability.
- To identify and prioritise potential, proposed and published standards the CQI needs to influence in pursuit of its objectives.
- To influence the selected standards by ensuring adequate and effective representation from CQI members on relevant UK standards and policy making bodies in the field of quality management.
- To promote the selected standards in a way that ensures that members of the CQI are informed of all national and international standards that are perceived as being relevant to quality professionals.
- To measure, review and improve the effectiveness of the SDG in fulfilling its mission and vision and in achieving its objectives.

Membership
Participation in the development of national and international standards is open to everyone and we have created three classess of member to accomodate different levels of committment and expertise.
Interested parties: Those with an interest in national and international standards who wish to influence their development but don't have the time for greater commitment and merely wish to share their views and experiences may do so on the Standards Development Forum which is accessible to the general public.
Ordinary members: CQI members with an interest in national and international standards who wish to influence their development with sufficient expertise and time to examine draft standards and provide constructive comment and suggestions for improvement. Ordinary members may view draft standards and participate in discussions on the SDG Members Forum which is accessible to CQI members only. To join the Standards Development Group as an ordinary member please register.
Committee members: Ordinary Members with sufficient expertise and commitment to represent the CQI on national standards committees and contribute to achieving the goals of the SDG. These members may also be elected by the national standards body to represent the UK on international committees. Committee members may view committee documents and participate in discussions on the SDG Committee Forum which is accessible to CQI members only. Committee members are elected by the SDG Committee through a selection process. Applications to join the committee should be addressed to the Chair (see below).
We are currently reviewing our register of members and request that CQI members interested in joining the Standards Development Group (SDG) re-register so we have up to date details that enable us to contact you when setting up internal Standards Working Groups.
