What is the Certificate?

The Certificate is designed for part-time study or distance learning and can be taken over one to three years, depending on how fast you want to proceed. The course is based on three modules.

Students can enter the programme at the start of the term. Each module is free-standing, but has clear links with the CQI Diploma in Quality.

C1 Customer, clients and markets

This module gives you an understanding of quality concepts and their terminology and an appreciation of the value of customers, clients and markets. Its aims are to:

  • provide an understanding of the role of quality management and the quality policy
  • enhance awareness of a customer focused approach
  • appreciate the principles of total quality management and the contribution of the gurus

C2 Principles of data and analysis

This module provides an understanding of the statistical methods used in quality, including reliability and variability. Its aims are to enable you to:

  • collect data in appropriate forms
  • make calculations, construct and interpret control charts and process capability studies
  • make judgment on the reliability of series and parallel systems
  • explain and interpret variability and probability distributions
  • justify how the use of data analysis supports the attainment of product/service quality

C3 Models, standards and laws

This module gives you an appreciation of the need for standardisation and introduces you to the legal issues related to quality. Its aims are to enable you to:

  • explain the role of standardising organisations and regulatory bodies
  • understand the purpose of quality management systems and models
  • explain the importance of inspection, audit and assessment to given standards
  • understand the purpose and benefits of consumer protection and product liability
