CQI Health and Social Care Group membership

Who should join?

The benefits of membership to the CQI health and social care group are enhanced by having a multi-professional interest group. Nurses, other clinicians, general managers, audit and governance staff and other staff groups in the healthcare field are encouraged to join.

Why join?

Make a difference

  • be part of a network of healthcare professionals committed to improving the quality of healthcare
  • gain mutual support from fellow professionals, exchange information and benefit from accelerated learning
  • acquire professional recognition for quality-related skills and knowledge through a respected membership programme
  • help influence policy and practice in healthcare, through contributions to debates
  • have high level representation in policy development

Professional recognition

The CQI has an established pathway for professional development within the quality field. The CQI Health and Social Care Group has developed a professional development pathway for Health and Social Care staff which provides recognition of quality skills and expertise. This is based on an experience-assessed portfolio to allow progression to the Healthcare Membership level (MCQI), equivalent to the CQI membership scheme. Training-based events progression is being developed. The portfolio based membership scheme is launched at the NICE annual conference in Birmingham December 3/4 2003.

Involvement in policy development

The group also offers many opportunities to influence policy, for example on a micro level by ongoing consultation on guideline development (e.g. with NICE) and on a macro level, members participated in several quality workshops with policy makers from the European Commission during 2003.

Tangible benefits to members

  • a free monthly copy of Qualityworld - the CQI's leading quality magazine - which regularly features articles on healthcare. Members are encouraged to contribute
  • an on-line healthcare newsletter in the healthcare section of the website with more sophisticated web-based information exchange in preparation
  • regular educational events geared to current healthcare quality issues, as well as access to the wide range of other CQI industry focused events
  • quality information, advice and networking opportunities throughout the UK and Europe - the CQI health and social care group offers connections with advisers on specific quality issues and facilitates links with quality networks within Europe, via the European Society for Quality in Health Care
