The CQI Body of Quality Knowledge (the BOQK) is the framework that defines the current boundaries of knowledge of the quality profession in the UK. It acts as one of the foundations that defines the quality profession and provides the basis for regulation.
The BOQK portal provides simple, yet in-depth, statements of knowledge that can be used and developed by users such as educational and training groups, CQI members and organisations that need to define guidance or competencies for their quality professionals.
The BOQK was originally developed in 2000 by the CQI's Professional Policy Board. The Board has recently appointed authors for each of the elements of the BOQK and this has resulted in the online portal, which provides detailed knowledge of each of these elements. Much of the BOQK has open access, but the more detailed knowledge may only be viewed by CQI members.
The contents of the portal are arranged in the following categories:
- Concepts of quality, its history and development
- Customers, suppliers, other stakeholders and markets
- Interactions of organisations and people
- Technologies and techniques
- Laws, standards, models, associations and professional bodies
- Corporate strategy
Who should use the BOQK portal?
There is always something new for the quality professional to learn. Business improvement now involves business transformation. Compliance has evolved from quality to embrace issues such as social responsibility and security. Systems must not only provide consistency, but equally importantly encourage innovation and creativity. Supply chains are now truly global requiring sophisticated management.
Within this environment of change, the BOQK aims to be the first point of call for CQI members and quality professionals who are moving into areas of quality that are new to them or the profession.
Improving the BOQK portal
Keeping the BOQK fully up to date will be a never ending process and CQI members will be able to access, use and comment on the BOQK content via our portal discussion forum. You will see at the end of every article there is a link for you to provide feedback which will contribute to the continual improvement of both the BOQK and the CQI itself.
