It is widely recognised that the Services spend more time and resources on training personnel than any other organisations in the United Kingdom. How much time and effort are committed to exercises, specific drills and training during the course of a year? In everyone's case the answer is that significant amounts of time are committed to training but unfortunately very little of this training is recognised in civilian life.

The Army has taken steps to remedy this situation for the benefit of personnel when they eventually leave army life to seek a second career. A number of widely recognised professional institutes have been approached to link their academic and professional qualifications to enable army personnel to achieve qualifications that will be recognised by civilian employers.

What can the CQI do for you?

The CQI has developed a number of schemes for army personnel to help them gain MCQI (full member of the CQI) a professional qualification that is recognised in civilian life.

The value of membership is the recognition it offers of managerial excellence and an understanding of those activities that make up managing for quality, for example business improvement, change management, risk assessment and mitigation and so on. What is particularly important is that having MCQI will help you to get past the gatekeeper when applying for your interviews in civilian life. There is a tendency to underestimate the contribution that army personnel can make to civilian organisations and, once past the gatekeeper and in an interview situation, the value of army discipline, training and experience coupled with MCQI should go a long way to securing army personnel the position of their choice.
