The Chartered Quality Institute

CQI Chartered Individual Proposition

The CQI's Qualification Board and the relevant working group have spent a significant time developing the chartered individual proposition in consultation with the Professional Policy Board, the Branches and Regions Board, Advisory Council and the Board of Trustees. At the 21 August meeting the CQI Board of Trustees approved the proposition as the basis for discussion with the Privy Council and their key advisers.

Following the receipt of feedback from members the Qualification Board has slightly amended the proposition.

Amended Proposition: Change to Bye-laws

This is the basis of a formal request to the Privy Council to agree to a new Bye-law to allow the Institute to grant individual full members the right to use the chartered title on an individual basis.

The CQI model for individual chartered status can be summarised as follows:

  • A chartered quality professional must be at least the grade of CQI Member
  • All Members and Fellows of the CQI will be entitled to have individual chartered status
  • All chartered Members and Fellows of the CQI will be required to undertake continuing professional development and this shall be validated by annual sample survey of membership
  • All Members and Fellows of the CQI will be required to sign up to the new CQI code of conduct.

The Qualification Board will be reviewing and clarifying the CPD requirements for members with the focus of CPD being a member's personal responsibility to plan their professional development in such a way as to help them deliver their professional service and achieve their career goals.

To be able to deliver a professional service to employers or clients most members will be already be undertaking CPD in the form of focused discussion with colleagues, reading, online research, study of regulations and standards, researching a particular type of issue or researching legislation applicable to their role even if they do not keep records. The Qualification Board will require some form of record of these activities and will be carrying out a sample survey of members so that we can demonstrate this requirement is being fulfilled.

The proposed change has now been discussed with the key advisers to the Privy Council and as a result we are asking for members to vote on the post nominal designations.

Vote on the post nominal designations (you will need to be a member and to log in to the CQI secure pages to access this page)

Once we have a clear decision on post nominal designations a formal proposition will be submitted to the Privy Council and the proposition will need to be approved at an extraordinary general meeting of the CQI. The change to the Bye-laws will require a 67% vote in favour at the extraordinary general meeting.

Members are encouraged to participate in the vote on the proposition and the post nominal designations as this will support our submission to the Privy Council.

It is not possible to provide a precise programme but we hope to be in a position to submit our proposition to the Privy Council before the end of this year.
