The Chartered Quality Institute

Call for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the CQI

The extraordinary general meeting of the Chartered Quality Institute was held at 12 noon on 18 March 2008 at 12 Grosvenor Crescent, London and the meeting approved the following resolution unanimously:

That the CQI creates an individual chartered status grade available to Members (MCQI) and Fellows (FCQI) but with a mandatory requirement that individuals who adopt this grade of membership undertake continuing professional development.

That the CQI formally petitions the Privy Council to make the following changes to its Bye-Laws or any such changes to the text that the Privy Council may require.

Formal motion

In pursuance of article 10 of the Charter of the Institute, and subject to such minor modification as the Privy Council may require and the Council of the Institute may agree, it is hereby resolved by the members of the Institute in general meeting that the Bye-laws of the Institute shall be amended as follows:

For Bye-law 7(c) substitute:

"(c) Subject to Regulations,
  • Members may use the designation "CQP", and
  • Fellows may use the designation "CQP".
(d) Subject to Regulations, Members and Fellows may, as an alternative to the designations at (c) (i) and (ii) above, use the designation "Chartered Quality Professional".

(e) Other privileges, including the right to membership or practising certificates or to use designations other than any which include the word "chartered", may be conferred on members by Regulations."

The CQI will be formally applying to the Privy Council for a change to the Bye-laws so that Members and Fellows can be offered individual chartered status. Although the time it takes to obtain Privy Council approval is difficult to predict it is hoped to be able to offer individual chartered status to members during the course of 2008.
