The Chartered Quality Institute

IQA Medical Devices Quality Group launched at MDT conference and exhibition 2003

The Institute of Quality Assurance (IQA), the only institute to recognise professionals working within the quality arena, is due to launch another in its line of industry specific quality groups designed to meet the needs of professionals from targeted sectors. The launch of the IQA Medical Devices Quality Group (MDQG) will take place at the MDT conference and exhibition 12-13 February at the NEC in Birmingham.

The group has been set up through a joint initiative between IQA, the leading body for the advancement of quality practices in the UK and the Biomedical Division of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), an organisation committed to advancing learning, quality improvement, and knowledge exchange. Participation in the MDQG is a must for those seeking to improve standards, efficiency and safety within the medical devices industry.

The Interim Chairman of the group Carol Cekala comments, "we have identified various requirements within this sector, which we aim to address. Supporting participants with their continual professional development is top of the agenda". Lectures and seminars on topical industry issues will be an integral part of furthering knowledge, examining themes from quality system implementation to utilizing electrical safety standards.

Practical hands-on support in terms of information supply on best practice, quality issues, practices and tools and techniques will be made available, particularly for SME participants who do not have access to the same level of resources as larger companies.

Collaboration with members of ASQ Biomedical Discussion Groups via an e-group is currently being explored, with the aim of facilitating the exchange of information and ideas across continents. Support and guidance could be provided to those working with new technologies in the fields of quality and regulatory management.

Those already interested in taking the group forward range from companies such as BSI, Mentor Medical, Portex, Electro Medical Equipment, Advanced Medical Optics, MDCI and FAS Medical to name but a few. For further information please visit the IQA stand number 630 and meet with a representative from the MDQG. Those with an interest in participation in the group and IQA membership are invited to contact the institute for further information on telephone: + 44 (0) 20 7245 6722 email: membership@iqa.org or visit the membership page
