World Quality Day celebrations came to Edinburgh yesterday as the city proudly hosted the Chartered Quality Institute's annual John Loxham seminar and quality awards at Murrayfield stadium.
World Quality Day raises awareness of the fundamental role that quality plays for UK business and industry competing in the global economy and the event featured one of Scotland's most successful quality business leaders, Stan Marshall, director of operational excellence at the Edrington Group, best known for its Scotch whisky brands such as Famous Grouse.
Attended by over 100 quality professionals from all over the UK, the CQI awards in quality give finalists, winners and CQI graduates well deserved recognition for their individual achievements. John Frame, CQI's CEO, said: 'This annual event presents the opportunity for individuals to demonstrate to their organisations, customers and supply chain that they have been successful in their efforts, and that their hard work has been recognised by the leading professional body in the industry.'
Mike Debenham, CQI's executive director policy and professional affairs, explained the importance of raising awareness in quality: 'The message is simple: UK plc cannot compete on price, it must compete on quality, innovation and value add. But business and industry must understand that organisations must deploy competent quality professionals if they are to achieve maximum and sustained benefits.'
