Quality Standard Promoting Excellence Within The Pharmaceutical Industry Launched
The Pharmaceutical Quality Group (PQG) of the Institute of Quality Assurance (IQA) is launching PS 9100:2002 Pharmaceutical excipients. The application of PS 9001:2000 & GMP guide for pharmaceutical excipients.
This new document details the application of the international quality standard ISO 9001:2000 and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) to the manufacture and supply of excipients to the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmaceutical excipients are formulated with active medicinal substances to create medicines, which are only effective, when high quality excipients are used.
PS 9100:2002 is a valuable tool for all those involved in the excipients supply chain. It assists pharmaceutical companies in communicating the minimum GMP required for excipients supply and provides excellent guidance for suppliers wishing to assure that they apply the correct quality standards to meet their customers needs.
Ashley McCraight, Project Development Team Leader, PQG comments, "In addition to promoting a better understanding between the pharmaceutical industry and its excipients suppliers, the standard can also help control the risk of cost escalation".
An event launching the new standard will be staged on 20 June 2002 at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, London. The full day programme will feature presentations from Bronwyn Phillips of the UK Medicines Control Agency explaining the importance of GMP for excipients suppliers. Dr. Sabine Kopp-Kubel from the World Health Organization will be amongst other eminent international speakers who will discuss GMP standards for supplier's of excipients and the application and benefits of certification towards PS 9100:2002.
This occasion will provide an ideal opportunity for chemical and pharmaceutical industry managers in manufacturing, quality, technical and purchasing functions to gain a deeper insight into the latest best practice guidelines within the pharmaceutical industry.
