Qualityworld
Future perfect?
Joseph De Feo
President, Juran Institute
The quality levels of products and services are always driven by societal needs and technological advances. As society continues to be threatened by global climate changes, natural disasters, and economic upheaval the pressure to make products to satisfy the new customer demands will increase.
These issues will put more pressure on businesses to avoid such disasters as toy recalls, deaths due to mishaps in hospitals, and environmental contamination. With these disasters occurring more frequently due to globalisation, the need to improve business performance will shape the next ten to 20 years of quality management.
By and large, governments will implement more restrictions and raise the standard of selling products in their countries to avoid these potential failures. This will cause companies to meet higher standards of quality and safety if they want to sell their products.
The Juran Institute is trying to provide a high-integrity global training company that can meet the challenges that organisations will face in the next decade. Dr Juran will not be around forever and so there will be less of a focus on 'gurus' and more of a focus on control of quality at high levels and driven by lean enterprises. This will be a challenge and we feel we will be there to help society meet that challenge.
